As I’ve never been to the U.S., I’m concerned about the culture shock and other problems I’m going to encounter there. Thanks to EducationUSA Indonesia advisers, Ms. Erica and Ms. Antje, who gave me clear ideas on what to expect. Their organized Pre Departure Orientation gave me the answers to a lot of my questions because the speakers who are U.S. graduates shared their experience adjusting to the academic and social environment there. The first year is going to be challenging, but don’t worry because there are other students who are ready to help you in the adjustment process. One other positive thing I learned is that your studying in the U.S. would broaden you mind and perspective. Thanks EducationUSA for helping me in getting through all of these.

Thanks to the Opportunity Funds awarded by AMINEF/EducationUSA which supplemented the scholarship that I obtained from Kent State University (KSU), Ohio, I am pursuing my master’s degree at (KSU) now. I wouldn’t be able to get this opportunity because I couldn’t afford paying the cost for going abroad being a high school teacher in Papua.

When I had to leave for KSU, I had a problem in securing funds to purchase the international tickets and pay for the visa fee. I happended to attend the presentation about the Opportunity Grant and Fulbright program given by AMINEF Executive Director Michael E. McCoy in Timika which directed me to apply for the Opportunity Grant to cover the expenses that I mentioned above. Immediately I visited AMINEF/EducationUSA website and downloaded the form. In no time, I submitted the application and its supporting documents to AMINEF/EducationUSA. In fifteen minutes after I submitted my application through e-mail, Ms. Erica Sjarif from EducationUSA phoned me informing that she would seriously considered my application. Soon afterwards, I was notified that I obtained the grant to cover the following expenses: Sevis fee, settling-in allowance, and airfare to KSU. Again, I would like to thank AMINEF/EducationUSA for helping me in this regard. My dreams to study in the U.S. comes true because of the support from KSU and AMINEF/EducationUSA. I will come back to Indonesia and hopefully I will be able make difference.

After accepting an assistantship offer from an American university, I searched for potential funding of upfront non-academic costs. I remembered having submitted an Opportunity Funds application several months prior and thus I queried its status. Within a few weeks I received a congratulatory phone call from AMINEF/EducationUSA, saying they will be providing the SEVIS fee, a (generous) allowance, and last but not least, airfare

You couldn't ask for a more helpful, approachable and responsive staff than the AMINEF/EducationUSA advisers. Thanks AMINEF/EducationUSA, you've surely helped make my whole transition process enjoyable.

I am one of the recipients of Opportunity Funds administered by AMINEF/EducationUSA in Indonesia. When I returned from Korea on completion of my Masters program, I gained admission to Oklahoma State University to pursue my Ph.D. there with a Teaching Assistantship and Fellowship. The scholarship would only be disbursed two weeks after the classes begin, while I was in dire need of funds to pay for the visa processing fee, purchase the international tickets; in addition, I need funds for my living expenses before my scholarship would be disbursed.

At that juncture, I came to know that AMINEF/EducationUSA offers the Opportunity Funds which could be used to cover expenses that foreign students need to pursue their study in the U.S. such as TOEFL and GRE test fees, application fee, international tickets, settling-in allowance, the visa and the SEVIS fees etc. The applicants are allowed to choose three out of all the abovementioned expense options. I jumped at the opportunity and immediately submitted the application and supporting documents listed in the EducationUSA website. I applied to get funds for the international tickets, settling-in allowance, and the SEVIS fee. Soon afterwards, I got a call from AMINEF/EducationUSA office that I was awarded the Funds.

I am really grateful to AMINEF/EducationUSA for awarding me the grant. This generous financial support not only covered the expensive international tickets, but also my one night lay over at the convenient transit airport-lounge on my way to the U.S. In addition, transportation allowance to the university from the airport was also provided. The settling-in allowance has been a boon for me because it helped me to survive and get settled in my first few weeks there. It is all the more important because as a new student, I need to pay my apartment rent in advance, meals and also complete other formalities like registering for my TA exams and pay the orientation fees. This settling-in allowance from AMINEF/EducationUSA, hence, has helped me much more than I could imagine. Hence, I am really grateful to AMINEF/EducationUSA for this opportunity grant, without which I believe, my dream of pursuing my advanced studies in the US, would have remained a dream in spite of the other sources of scholarship provided by Oklahoma State University
