Recruitment Opportunities for U.S. Institutions
Indonesia: World's third-largest democracy – population 240 million; emerging economy of the 21st century.
Factors driving Indonesian student outbound mobility
1) Strong GDP growth: Nearly 7% in 2012 and expected to continue
2) More families can afford to study abroad: 60% are now considered in the economic “middle class”
3) More people have jobs: Unemployment is down to 6%
4) Insufficient HE capacity: State universities can accommodate 3% of the 4,300,000 students in senior secondary school
5) Predicted long-term demand for education: Over half of the population of 240 million is under 30-yrs old

Keys to sponsored student recruitment
1) U.S. institutions allow flexibility in requirements such as TOEFL, GRE/GMAT, IELTS, SAT, etc.
2) Provide conditional letters of acceptance – this makes students eligible for Indonesian government funding.
- Note: Testing fees (including travel fees to a testing site) and application fees present a significant barrier due to the fact that scholarship funds are not awarded until after a student has been admitted to a university.
